Patented by Lewis P Haslett in 1849.

Lewis Phectic Haslett was an American inventor and the first person to receive a patent for an early form of the gas mask in 1849. Air purifiers today have been developed from an early gas mask to suit the needs of factory workers to self-standing systems for cleaning the air, as the very air we breathe has become hazardous.

In 1940, the US Atomic Energy Commission invented the HEPA filter to clean air contaminated with radioactive particles. After World War II, the HEPA filter was released to the public and is now being used by air purifier companies as a heavy-duty filtration device.

In the 1960s, a German engineer, with his brother, developed a simple air purifier system. Their system comprised of a filter pad and used magnets to attach the air filters. The filter trapped the dust present in the air. This purifying system became the first air purifier system used within households. With regular use of this system, consumers noticed that the filter system can reduce asthma and allergy symptoms.

Currently, HEPA purifiers rule the air purifier market. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, HEPA Filter, Activated Carbon, and Ionizer purifiers are the most common air purifiers for the home. The second most popular type of purifier, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO), is one of the emerging technologies. PCO cleaners also use UV light to react with a catalyst – TiO2. The reaction oxidizes bacteria, viruses, fungi, odors, and volatile organic compounds and breaks the pollutants down into harmless carbon dioxide and water molecules in order to make the air cleaner.

American Standard Accuclean Whole-Home Air Filtration System

Cleaner air starts with better airflow. Thanks to the patented technology of American Standard AccuClean, you get just that. Traditional filters force air through dense materials to trap particles. Over time they become clogged and hamper airflow, which results in lower airflow and efficiency, also known as “pressure drop.” But with AccuClean whole-home filtration, our unique design gives you long-lasting, consistent performance with the lowest pressure drop and highest efficiency of any filtration system on the market.

All so your family can enjoy cleaner air and higher comfort. With AccuClean,™ you get up to 99.98% cleaner air, and so
much more.

Clean air: AccuClean™ filters the air about 7 times per day throughout your entire home. This means that airborne
particles, like dust, pollens, pet dander, and even viruses will be trapped in the AccuClean™ and not in your lungs.

Efficiency: Removes up to 99.98% of airborne particulate and allergens down to .3 microns from the filtered air in
your home. So you get cleaner air and more of it.

Ozone: We designed AccuClean with your health in mind. That is why ozone output from AccuClean is 10x less than the recommended standard allowed by the FDA.

Reliability: Extraordinary 10-year registered limited warranty on functional parts.
